Varanasi : The city celebrated Naag Panchami with traditional religious fervour on Aug 14. A number of wrestling competitions were organised in different localities and snake charmers had a field day.

Since early morning, groups of children started roaming on the streets and selling the photographs of Naag Devta in residential areas. In some localities, Mahuar, traditional acrobatic shows by snake charmers, were also organised. People performed puja to please the deity. Dangals (wrestling shows) were held at different places, attracting crowds of locals. Wrestling has been an integral part of the Naag Panchami festival in the city.
