Hyderabad : The artistic depiction of the glory and richness of Telugu language and culture present during the rule of Sri Krishnadevaraya and the pomp and splendour of his coronation fete won accolades not only from the people who came to witness the 64th Independence Day celebrations at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad but also from the jury which adjudged it as the best tableau.
This tableau depicted the darbar held by Krishnadevaraya and his eight jewels (poets) as well as dance performances in the royal court.
The department of culture bagged the second prize for its tableau which displayed Kuchipudi dance and its importance while the forest department's tableau which showcased the flora and fauna in the state and highlighted the need for preserving environment, won the third place.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah presented police medals for meritorious services to the police officials for the year 2009. Mahesh Chandra Ladda, east zone DCP, Hyderabad, Vijayawada police commissioner T Sitaramanjaneyulu, deputy inspector general of police (DIG), vigilance and enforcement, K V Rajendranath, Guntur SP D S Chauhan were among 35 police officials who were given away the medals.
In President's police medals' category, CID IG M Punna Rao and retired additional SP (intelligence) K Jaganmohan Reddy were honoured. Other four police officials also received President Police medals for distinguished service.
