Rajiv Gandhi advocate's training scheme unveils
 

New Delhi : Minister of Law and Justice M. Veerappa Moily on Aug 20 launched the Rajiv Gandhi Advocate's Training Scheme here.

The scheme is part of the second generation of reforms in legal education. The main object of the scheme is to give motivation and encouragement to young lawyers who are practicing in Magistrate and Munsif Courts, by providing proper professional training for a period of two months so that they may serve the need of law professional at the grass root level.

Ten advocates would be selected from every state per year for the programme, which would include one month training at one of 14 National Law School Universities. The lawyers would then be attached to a senior lawyer of a High Court or District Court for the next month's to get practical training.

The first batch of advocates would commence their training at National Law School University in Delhi from October. A selection committee at the state level will be constituted.

While selecting the candidates, preference will be given to those candidates who belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, other backward classes, and women and physically handicapped. The Government would spend Rs.70 lakh every year on this training.
