Jaipur : The Rajasthan High Court on Aug 12 stayed the students' union election in Rajasthan University until further orders following petitions filed by varsity students.
The petitioners - Sumit Bhagasra and four other candidates - claimed in the court that the university may reject their application to contest polls citing Article 20 (c) of students union constitution which says that a candidate once declared failed or absent in an examination cannot contest the elections.
Bhagasra, who is the president of NSUI unit in RU, did not appear in for the regular examination due to his illness in the last academic session. He approached the court stating that as per the provisions made in the constitution of the students union poll, his candidature is likely to be rejected by the university on the ground that he did not appear in the examination.
