New Delhi : In a major initiative to promote eco-friendly tourism in the state, Jungle Lodges & Resorts (JLR), owned and managed by Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), along with Department of Forest, Karnataka will set up 110 tented accommodation- Jungle Camps & Trails at 11 jungle sites. Except one, all these tented accommodation will be along the Western Ghats of Karnataka.
According to ND Tiwari, Managing Director of Jungle Lodges & Resorts Ltd., the Forest Department of Karnataka will set up these tents as per the design provided by the state tourism department. These sites will be managed by JLR. The 11 sites where the tents will be set up are: Sakrebailu Elephant Camp, Kulagi Timber Trails Camp, Anshi Evergreen Camp, Gopinatham Country Camp, Bhagawati Herbal Camp, Seethanadi Herpeto Camp, Aanejhari Butterfly Camp, Muthodi Trogon Camp, Castle Rock Adventure Camp and Jogimatti Trekkers Camp.
Besides, JLR is also in the process of opening new jungle lodges and resorts at various destinations in Karnataka. JLR will open a new 20 cottage property at Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary near Hampi in September. Also, another jungle lodge, Oasis of Calm, will be set up at Pilikula near Mangalore 2010. Tiwari informed that two more jungle lodges are in the pipeline at Jog and Khanapur which will become operational next year.
JLR currently owns and manages 12 jungle lodges across different ecologically sensitive tourism destinations in Karnataka. These include: Bandipur Safari Lodge, Bannerghatta Nature Camp, Bheemeshwari Fishing and Nature Camp, Devbagh Beach Resort, Doddamakali Fishing and Nature Camp, Dubare Elephant Camp, among others.
