Hariharan is excited about his new venture

A singer whose voice can melt mountains, Hariharan has versatility written all over him. What's more, after debuting as a composer in Modhi Vilayadu with his colonial cousin Leslie, the musical twins are back with their next venture Chikku Bukku. "The movie has a nice subject, mostly romantic. Since it is set in two periods, we had scope for more variety. There are modern as well as retro numbers," says Hari.

Bringing together two creative minds from different genres and composing one tune must have been quite a challenge. Quiz him about it, and he says, "Not at all. Leslie and I have been working together since 1996; it's no struggle for us. When we get together, it's like a house on fire. Music just happens." Elaborating on the music for their latest Tamil flick, he says, "We recorded a song in Amritsar with the Wadali brothers for Chikku Bukku. The song needed be infused with some Sufi to convey a sense of yearning," he says.

So seemingly at peace with himself, there is a sense of ease in his singing. He juggles with recordings, travelling, concerts, music composing, shooting for his reality shows and much more. How does he manage all this? "I just enjoy it," he says matter-of-factly.

On the reality show trend and the increase in the number of youngsters showing interest, "Some of them are amazing! Parents must see such shows as a launch platform for their children. However, they must not pressure the young ones," he says, with concern.

So, how's it hearing his tunes delivered by other singers? "I've been singing my own compositions for a very long time. So to hear my thoughts in another singer's voice gives me a sense of completeness."

Karka Naan Karka... (sung by Benny Dayal and Rahul Nambiar), he feels, will be the pick of the numbers in Chikku Bukku.... "It'll rock the charts," signs off the ace singer.
