Sydney : Australian distance runner Ben St Lawrence warmed up for October's New Delhi Commonwealth Games with victory in the City to Surf mass fun run on Aug 8.
St Lawrence, who is entered for the 5000m in New Delhi, finished the 14-kilometre (8.7 mile) race from Sydney City to Bondi Beach in 41 minutes and five seconds. He beat last year's winner Michael Shelley with Jeff Hunt third in the 40th running of the race, which attracted a record field of 80,000 runners.
Former Australian Olympian Steve Moneghetti holds the race record of 40:03 for his 1991 win. Sydney's Lara Tamsett won the women's section of the race in a time of 46:54, winning by almost a minute ahead of Australian Cassie Fien while Jessica Trengove was third.
