After Gir, Big B to shoot for Gandhi heritage in Gujarat

Gandhinagar : From aggression of Asiatic lions to Ahimsa. Brand ambassador of Gujarat, Amitabh Bachchan will now focus on the Mahatma and his preaching in the second round of shoots in the state which will begin after Independence Day.

Sources in the tourism department said, second round of shoots for Khushboo Gujarat Ki' series to begin on August 16, will see Bachchan visiting Porbandar, Dwarka and Ahmedabad. He will spend two days at each of these places, and will return to Mumbai on August 21.

His earlier shoots focused on heritage, wildlife and beach tourism. This time it will be Gandhi and gods. So expect Big B to transcend from his cowboy like attire to Khadi.

Bachchan, in February this year, visited Gandhinagar for a special screening of Paa' for chief minister Narendra Modi and other state dignitaries and sought tax exemption for the film. He then accepted the Gujarat government's offer to be brand ambassador of the state.

At Porbandar, Big B will shoot at Kirti Mandir, Mahatma Gandhi's birthplace, and beach where sand sculptures were erected recently. He will be staying at the Porbandar Circuit House. He will also shoot at Dwarka, Bet Dwarka and Nageshwar.

In Ahmedabad, shooting will be done at Gandhi Ashram and Lothal. Interestingly, none of the archaeological monuments or heritage sites of Ahmedabad are on Bachchan's shooting schedule. "An Ogilvy & Mather (O&M) team was in Gandninagar three days ago, giving finishing touches to Bachchan's programme and getting the script approved from the state government," a senior official said. Piyush Pandey, O&M's India chief, will accompany Bachchan.

Bachchan's third and final visit for propagating Gujarat tourism is likely to take place some time in November, when he will visit Saputara. "Bachchan has accepted Modi's invitation to visit Rannotsav festival in White Rann of Kutch, an annual winter festival. We have even booked tents for him and his family," Vipul Mittra, state tourism secretary said.
