Veer Patel finishes second in 3rd round of MRF national supercross championship

Vadodara : City lad and the youngest biker in the country Veer Patel displayed class again, when he finished second in the third round of MRF national supercross championships held in Jaipur recently.

Patel representing Team Lilleria Racing stood second in the foreign open class group A. CS Santosh and KP Aravind of Team TVS Racing stood first and second, respectively. Patel had won the MRF national supercross championships last year and had become the first privateer to win the contest.

TVS Racing team had a stranglehold over the championships for the last two decades that Veer broke last year. Though he cannot win the championships in 2010, as he had missed the first round due to injury, he wants to put up good performance. The performance of Veer in second round of the championship in Jaipur has proved to be a perfect comeback for him. "It was a great comeback for me as I had not practised for about six months after sustaining a knee injury. I just practised for two weeks before participating in the second round. But, I was confident that I will perform well," Veer said.

"Jaipur was the toughest track on which I had ever driven in Indian SX series as it was tough to stay on two wheels. But, it was a great learning experience," Veer added.

Veer finished fourth in the second round that was held in Coimbatore and he is aiming for the first position in the fourth round that will be held in the city in October. Veer had undergone a full knee anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus re-construction surgery in March this year after his knee got tweaked during a training session in USA. "As I had missed the first round, I cannot win this year's championship but I want to win in all rounds. I am now preparing for the race in my hometown," he said.

The 18-year-old rider will also represent India along with Santosh in third round of Asian Championships that will be held in Iran in September. Veer, who stood 13th in this contest, last year, wants to become champion in 2010.
