Vadodara Municipal Corporation collects cooking oil samples after tip-off

Vadodara : Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials raided a shop in Karelibaug area of the city and collected samples of a cooking medium stocked there. While the raids were conducted on a tip-off that the medium was ghee, the distributors have said that the material was mild fat and not ghee as it was suspected during the operation.

VMC officials said that the operation was conducted after they received a tip-off that dubious quality ghee was being sold from the shop. The officials raided the shop along with experts from the state food and drugs administration.

While the distributor, who had stocked the material, categorically said that there was no question of adulteration or mis-branding as they had never claimed that the material was ghee. "It is advertised, packaged and sold as mild fat that is not ghee. We have necessary clearances from the central government and the samples were analysed even by the VMC before we began selling the medium in the city," said a functionary of the company.

VMC additional health officer Dr Mukesh Vaidya said that the samples collected from the spot were being analysed by the food and drugs experts. "The further course of action will be decided after the reports arrive," he said.
