Ludhiana : Devotees from across the city observed Guru Purnima, which falls on a full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashadh (July-August) every year. This time falling on July 25, Guru Purnima saw scores of residents who made a beeline to temples and paid reverence to the guru for providing them spiritual guidance. The devotees started thronging at shrines and ashrams from early morning to seek guru's blessings.
Describing the importance of this day, Devvrat Devi from Gaulok Dham said, Guru Purnima falls on a full moon day of the Hindu month of ashadh and is observed every year to express gratitude towards the guru. It is also known as Vyas Purnima because the day is sacred to the memory of great sage Vyasa, who was founder of the guru-disciple lineage and creator of Mahabharata and Bhagvat Gita. All Hindus are indebted to the great sage as he also edited the four vedas.
"If we can celebrate western festivals, then what's wrong with observing something that is very much part of our culture," said Amber, a devotee. The day provides us an unmatchable opportunity to show devotion towards our lord. On my part, I visited my guru in Dandi Swami Temple for paying reverence, he shared.
Echoing similar emotions, another devotee, Manoj, said gurus had been considered on an equal footing with the three lords Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. "It is as important for me to remember my guru" he added. Several Hindu organizations celebrated the day with great zeal in places like Dandi Swami Mandir, Gaulok Dham and other big temples.
