Dharwad : Intach's Dharwad chapter will organize a two-day photo exhibition on Adil Shahi monuments at the art Gallery of Government School of Fine Arts in Dharwad from August 1. The exhibition will display about 150 photographs of rare archaeological sites clicked by Dr H G Daddi and journalist Raju S Vijapur.
Intach national president and recipient of Vishishtha Seva Medal Major General L K Gupta will inaugurate the event. Rajeshwari Tandon, senior IAS officers P C Naik, Anil Gokak and J H Jagadale will be the chief guests at the inaugural function to be held at 10:30 am on August 1.
Bijapur city is a hub of nationally protected historical buildings. Built in Indo-Saracen style between 1489 and 1686, the monuments are masterpieces of building technology and style. But, unfortunately these invaluable cultural edifices are in peril. Unregulated urbanization, illegal real estate businesses, official apathy and public ignorance have posed a serious threat to the Adil Shahi's legacy of grand architectural heritage today, said Gupta.
Raju Vijapur said one of the main objectives of the photo exhibition is to create awareness among the people about the grand cultural heritage of Karnataka and mobilize public support to protect the monuments in danger.
