Kanpur : The two premier associations of lawyers - Kanpur Bar Association and The Lawyers Association on Aug 2 started selling vakalatnama and parcha advocate from their offices.
The association would sell Vakalatnama for Rs 100 and out of it Rs 70 would be returned back to the advocate on submission of receipt. The original cost of Vakalat nama is Rs 13 and remaining money would go the advocate welfare fund. The corpus was being created to provide financial help to needy advocates and their families in case of any emergency according to Naresh Tripathi, general secretary, Kanpur Bar Association.
The basic idea behind the Vakalatnama scheme was to decide the petty cases according to the provisions of law and help the junior and new advocates he added. On the other hand new scheme would cost more to clients and litigants (offenders) of petty cases such as Motor Vehicle Act. At present offenders get rid off from charges after spending Rs 100 or 120. Now they have to pay more as Rs 100 for Vakalatnama, complained several advocates.
As many as eight persons carrying arms inside the court premises deposited their arms and ammunition in temporary armoury situated in Kanpur Nagar court premises on Aug 2.
