Vadodara: The selection committee of Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has once again sent out strong signals to cricketers, asking them to play in local cricket matches. The selectors didn't send two senior cricketers to the Kenya tour as they had not participated in the local matches that had been organised by BCA a couple of months ago.
The players were eager to join the BCA team that is currently touring Kenya. However, the selectors shot down their names after discussing the issue in the selection committee. "The duo had not played local matches that were organised by BCA for improving performance of players. While one of these cricketers had played two matches, the other one did not play even one match. We had made it clear earlier too that all cricketers, seniors and juniors, will have to play in local matches," said a BCA official.
"However, some senior players do not take our suggestions seriously. They often skip local matches as they think that they don't need to play in such matches. We just want everyone to know that every cricketer is required to play in matches that are held ahead of the season," a source in BCA said.
BCA had sent similar instructions in 2009 too, when it found that experienced players were not participating in local matches. "Senior players should, in fact, play more in local matches as their experience would help junior cricketers to learn the game more quickly. They should set a good example for juniors, apart from keeping their bodies fit by playing," BCA officials said, adding that the rules will apply even while picking up the Ranji squad too.
