Allahabad district administration gears up for Shrawan

Allahabad : With the onset of holy month of `Shrawan' from July 27 the district administration has geared up to provide the best facilities to devotees and thousands of kanwariyas carrying `Gangajal' to offer it to Lord Shiva at different temples.

In this connection, a meeting of district officials was held on Monday where district magistrate (DM) Sanjay Prasad asked the officials concerned to make foolproof arrangements during Shrawan. Adequate lighting arrangements along with cleanliness and sanitation should be maintained at different parts of the city given the fact that flow of kanwariyas and devotees would continue till August 24.

He added that necessary barricading should be done at various bathing ghats on the bank of Ganga at Sangam, Daraganj and Phaphamau which should also be well lit up. The executive engineer, Jal Nigam flood division was also instructed to construct stairs at Dashashwamedh ghat after taking stock of bathing facilities for pilgrims. The officials of the power department were also asked to replace the non-functional high mast at the ghat with a new one.

He also stressed on repair of road from Andawa to Handia and filling up of craters by Public Works department (PWD) along with repair of pavements so that kanwariyas moving on this route do not encounter any problem.

The municipal commissioner was asked to ensure cleanliness around all Shiva temples in the city while the police department was asked to station rescue boats along with trained divers to avert any mishap during bathing period. The volunteers of the civil defence department would also be stationed at the bathing ghats for security purpose. Close circuit television should be installed in areas where there is heavy rush of pilgrims and the health department should maintain adequate stock of medicines at community health centres (CHC) along with anti-snake venom vaccine.
