Meghalaya seeks Govt intervention for security to border residents

Shillong : In the wake of recent firing by BDR towards India along the international border, Meghalaya government has sought Home Minister P Chidambaram's intervention in providing adequate security cover to residents along the Indo-Bangla boundary here. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who met representatives of border residents last evening, said the chief secretary has written a letter to the Home Minister on the "lack of confidence on commitment of the BSF towards protecting the life and property of the border people". "We would like to know from the Centre whether the BSF is ready to provide 100 per cent security to our people," the chief minister said. Sangma said the Centre should intervene as the state had "very little to do on the issue". "The Centre must take the matter in the right perspective," he said.
