Culture Department of Sikkim launches website

Gangtok: State Culture Minister Sonam Gyatso Lepcha has formally launched website of the culture department at his office in Tashiling Secretariat. Present on the occasion on May 25 were Secretary DR Kharel, Special Secretary PN Tamang and Deputy Secretary ST Gyatso.

The website (www.sikkim-culture.gov.in) has all the details of the department including separate sections on archives, archaeology, museums, libraries, and kings of Sikkim, religious institutions, cultural events, activities and projects that are being planned.

The website, with a state-of-the-art design has also details on the administrative set up and functions of the department.

With Sikkims ethnic music in the background and ancient photographs in all the web pages, the portal could serve as a cultural base to the people craving to know more about Sikkims cultural wealth.

''The Government of Sikkim under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has been according top-most priority to Information Technology which he always mentions as one of the main segment to be adopted for Human Resource Development. ''With such inspiring adage and encouragement, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Heritage has created a landmark by launching their own web portal,'' was the message in the web portal given by the minister.

He also expressed happiness that the people from all over the world can now see and hear the cultural dance as well as the original sound of ethnic musical instruments of Sikkim through the portal. Some of the old photographs, which are also available in the website, would rejuvenate the old memories; he concluded.
