Itanagar: Kalaktang, a small town in Arunachals West Kameng district situated along the strategic international border with Bhutan and Assam, has attained the status of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Headquarters with Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu formally inaugurating it on May 25.
Kalaktang circle headquarters is one of the oldest in the district. It was a long spelt demand of people for an independent ADC headquarters.
Addressing people on the occasion, Mr Khandu called for a united effort from all corners to take the state to new heights. He took time to express gratitude to the Centre for approving a state plan size of Rs 2,500 crore. Informing about the new education policy, Mr Khandu said no representation would be entertained in case of teachers transfer and posting. In order to boost up the morale of teachers working in remote areas and in harsh conditions, they would be provided special incentives, he disclosed.
Taking serious note of the plea made by the locals over the rampant destruction of reserve forest and encroachment made by the people of neighbouring state, Mr Khandu said he would take up the matter with his Assam counterpart and would also apprise Union Home Minister P Chidambaram of the same.
Later, responding to the public memorandum, the Chief Minister assured to look after their demands after discussion with the local MLA. He was accompanied by Power (Elect) Minister Jarbom Gamlin, RWD Minister Kalikho Pul, local MLA T Norbu and West Kameng DC Rinchin Tashi, official sources informed.
