Puducherry: Union Minister of state for Planning, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture V Narayansami on May 20 flagged off the "Jyoti Yatra" on way to Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperambadur on the eve of the former Prime Minister's 19th death anniversary.
Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam and his cabinet colleagues E Valsaraj and Malladi Krishna Rao besides PCC President A V Subramanian and INTUC President Ravichandran were present on the occasion.
The Yatra, undertaken by the Karnataka unit of the INTUC under the leadership of it's President S S Prakasam, arrived here on May 19th night and a warm reception was accorded to it by Puducherry State INTUC President Ravichandran and former Minister Theni C Jayakumar at Villianur.
The Jyoti was accommodated in a priavte school at Villianur and flagged off to Sriperambadur on May 20th morning from the Gandhi statue on the Goubert Avenue. Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam flagged off another Yatra to Sriperambadur organised by the local unit of the INTUC under it's President G Ravichandran. Both the Yatras would reach the Rajiv Memorial at Sriperambadur tomorrow and pay homage to the late leader.
