India Become Toppers In South Asian Athletic Championships
 
India Become Toppers In South Asian Athletic ChampionshipsThe Indian athletes have shown a brilliant performance on the ending day of the just concluded South Asian Athletic Championships, as they become the toppers in the point table with 24 gold, 19 silver and 14 bronze medals. The veteran and experienced middle distance runner from India, Sinimole Paulose was in a great form in this tournament and she won her second individual gold on the last day. She was the star for the Indian team in this championship as she became successful to do justice to her reputation and win her second individual gold, after making a meet record of 4:16.40 seconds in the 1500m. The earlier record of 4:30.24 seconds was set up by Rekha of India in the year of 1998.

The glory of Sinimole increased further as she won the award for being the `most promising athlete` in the women`s section of the tournament and the corresponding prize in the men`s section was won by Zafar Iqbal from Pakistan. Sinimole won two gold medals in this tournament including the medal on the last day and she won her first gold medal in the 800m events earlier on Friday. Among the other players for India, Sushma won the silver medal in the 1500m events.

The Indian athletes dominated in the men`s section as well, as P Shankar made a new meet record in the men`s 400m hurdles event to win the gold. The other Indian athlete, Santhosh Patel also made a record in the men`s 100m event and won the gold and the famous Indian high jumper, Hari Shanker Roy made a record in the men`s high jump event. The other records that were made by the Indian athletes on the last day of the tournament include Rameshan Rajee in the men`s 800m, India `A` team in the 4x400m women`s relay and also V Leelavathy in the women`s 400m hurdles event. The popular Indian shot putter, Seema Antil also played well in the tournament as she won her second individual gold in the Shot Put event after winning the discus gold on Friday.
