The Bangaluru-based life science company Avesthagen has recently launched a new cracker biscuit in the Indian market and the company officials have stated that the biscuit is exclusively launched for the people suffering from the disease of diabetes. The officials said that the new cracker biscuit is enriched with a bioactive Teestar and the biscuit is likely to help the diabetics reduce their blood glucose levels by almost 10-15%.
The sources from the industry have informed that India is currently being considered as the diabetic capital of the world, and most of the leading bio-pharmaceutical companies of the country, are introducing a plethora of new products for treating the disease. The sources added that the companies are mainly looking at introducing such products that are unconventional and less troublesome, rather than the traditional injections.
While talking about the newly launched cracker biscuit of the company, the CMD of Avesthagen, Dr Villoo Morawala Patell has stated that the bioactive Teestar included in this biscuit has derived from a single herb. Informing that the cracker has the capability to directly enter the food chain of a patient, he added that it is also going to help the patients to delay the consumption of insulin or even be able to avoid the intake of insulin. The other leading company, Biocon is also working on an oral insulin and the CMD of Biocon, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said in this context, "We are trying to ascertain the correct dosage for IN105 (oral insulin molecule) for treating type II diabetes. Our phase IIa trials are currently on in five sites and we are studying patient response".
