Mumbai : Two young entrepreneurs and former IITians on March 19 claimed to have developed India's first community-based programme - 'Mumbai Community Card' - which can potentially redirect Rs 2,200 crore of the urban Mumbai's purchasing power to generate Rs 11 crore for Non-Profit organisations in the next two years.
"This card endeavours to make donations to NGOs as simple as shopping for ourselves! Every time a card holder shops, books a ticket or buys groceries from a partner merchant a small amount is donated to the underprivileged," founders of the company Nikhil Dhoka and Amit Kumar said.
"The programme has been launched all over Mumbai city and aims to assure inclusive growth and benefits to all entities in the society," they said after it was officially launched by the Sheriff of Mumbai Indu Sahani. Sahani became the first member of the card with a noble cause, they said.
