Sony has showcased its new 3D, LED televisions in India. These new TVs, which are Internet ready, also come with applications like YouTube and Social Networking embedded. Sony has tied up with several content providers to provide online services to the users of these high-end TVs.
The intention to launch 3D TVs in India was clarified by Sony in an event that coincided with the launch of new Sony Bravia branded flat screen TVs priced between Rs. 45,900 and Rs. 3.5 lakh. Coming back to the 3D TVs, it is pertinent to note that with the scarcity (or rather, the lack of) 3D content in India has not deterred Sony from entering this segment. The only 3D content you can watch are usually foreign broadcast, which usually do not appeal to the Indian Junta.
This is reminiscent of the past where companies use to sell NICAM (Near Instantaneous Companded Audio Multiplex) stereo laden TVs in India while we had no NICAM broadcasts at all in the country. Anyway, as long as companies give a head start to technologies like these, it is always beneficial to the consumer since the prices are likely to come down whenever you have access to a steady stream of 3D content for your TV. Sony is also working on 3D software for the PS3, which can possibly help you get your own 3D content. That, by the way, seems to be a very interesting option!
The Sony 3D TV boasts of Motionflow technology @200Hz. Then, there is this Image Blur Reduction feature using which users can watch sports and action scenes in their full glory. Sony has just showcased these TVs and intends to bring them to India in the next few months. The company is highly positive about its fortunes in the Indian LCD TV market of which Sony has a sizable market share. The company also plans to double its sales in the country. Since 3D TVs can display 2D content with aplomb, you might want to buy one of these just to be an early adopter! Please be prepared to shell out well over a lakh to enjoy stuff in full 3D glory! The exact price details are yet to be revealed.
