 To save energy, Delhi's main civic agency, the MCD, has launched the country's first remote-controlled street lights which can be switched on and off using an Internet-enabled main server located in the heart of the city, says a report.
The first phase of the project has become operational and covers a distance of 101 kilometres on 52 city roads. The second phase will cover an additional 157 kilometres and 107 roads, and is scheduled to be completed this May. The total cost of the project has been pegged at over Rs 30 lakh and is being implemented by such companies as Philips Electronics, BP Project Pvt Ltd and Sweka Power-Tech Engineers Pvt Ltd. The Delhi-based firm Sweka is responsible for developing the software and related technology for the project.
