New Delhi : Ministry of Roads & Highways, Government of India will offer all assistance to provide good road connectivity to heritage sites in India.
This assurance was given by Kamal Nath, Minister of Roads and Highways while interacting with a delegation of World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in Delhi recently. This information was divulged by Vivek Nair, Vice Chairman, WTTC India Initiative at a seminar organised recently by Foundation for Aviation and Sustainable Tourism in Delhi.
Confirming the same, Sujit Banerjee, Secretary Tourism of Government of India said that his Ministry would work out a map of such heritage sites in India which suffer from poor road connectivity and submit it to the Ministry of Roads & Highways. Explaining other initiatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Banerjee said that it has taken up the issue of way-side amenities on National and State Highways as a priority issue. He informed that the plan is to set up such amenities at an interval of every 50 kms on National Highways, 40 kms on State Highways and 30 kms in hilly areas.
"There will be proliferation of such way-side amenities across the country in few years time," stated Banerjee. In the wake of increasing incidents against tourists, Banerjee said that a draft of Safe & Honourable Tourism has been circulated to all states and is waiting for response. He said that the action plan would also encompass code of conduct for tourism stakeholders.
