Bangalore : In a setback to AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa, the Karnataka High Court on March 10 dismissed her petition seeking to quash a Rs 66.65-crore wealth case pending against her in a special court here.
The court also rejected her prayer for quashing a 1997 order of a Chennai trial court which took cognisance of Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption complaint that she amassed wealth disproportionate to her known sources of income when she was chief minister of Tamil Nadu between 1991 and 1996.
In his order, Justice K N Keshavanarayana held that the trial court order taking cognizance of the complaint on June 5, 1997 did not suffer from any illegality or irregularity. The judge observed that the petitioner, "ably represented by eminent lawyers", had participated in the trial of the case during which as many as 200 witnesses were examined and cross-examined over a 13-year period.
