From composing music for Bollywood films to staging high-adrenaline shows, the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio has enthralled music fans the world over.

And Chennaiites are no exception as they go berserk whenever the trio stages a show here. Ask Ehsaan what he likes about the city, and he starts off, "Every time we perform here, it's a different experience. There are no constraints unlike in Mumbai where people are obsessed with Bollywood music."

The SEL team, probably the only trio in the history of music directors, has been churning out one memorable composition after the other. Apart from their Bollywood ventures, they also have Tamil flicks Aalavandhan and Yavarum Nalam to their credit. Ask him about how different it is composing for south Indian films and he says, "Melody is very prominent here. So, it offers us a good opportunity to compose classical-based tunes. We look forward to working on more Tamil and Telugu films."

Keeping in mind the trio's 13-year-old association, ask him how it has been possible for three musicians - each immensely talented in his own right - to work together and produce the best of tunes and Ehsaan smiles, "The journey has been amazing. We've grown and our music has blossomed." He adds with a chuckle, "That doesn't mean we don't fight! We have our fair share of squabbles and I'm responsible for most of them, since I'm neurotic and the most objective member in the team. These fights actually help us jazz up our music."

Right now, Ehsaan has more reasons than one to be happy as he has become the first Indian guitarist to have a signature series of guitars to his credit. On this, he says, "I'm an absolute guitar junkie. Its sound, versatility and electronics excite me. When I got my first electric guitar way back in 1980, it was a dream come true. I have a bunch of guitars in my collection."
