SPIC MACAY to help attract youth participation in Commonwealth Games

New Delhi : A series of music concerts, photography exhibitions and short films - the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is all set to attract youth participation in the mega 2010 Commonwealth Games here.

Announcing the partnership between SPIC MACAY and the Games Organising Committee, Suresh Kalmadi said, "The Games will leave behind world-class sporting infrastructure in the country and will proliferate a sporting culture that students and youth can most benefit from".

"Hence, we wish to galvanise and involve students across the country and encourage them to be a part of this mega sporting extravaganza. SPIC MACAY, through its association with India's educational institutions, will help promote that amongst the youth," the organising committee chairman said.

According to Kiran Seth, founder-chairman of SPIC MACAY, the organisation will reach out to 500 schools and colleges in Delhi and surrounding areas to spread awareness about the Games by distributing specially created literature on the sporting event, arranging visits of Shera, the mascot, to campuses, organising special photography exhibitions and showcasing short films on the Games. In addition, there will be a series of signature "Music In The Park" concerts. A message on Commonwealth Games will be read out to the people during and at the end of each concert. Coming up in the "Music In the Park" concert series is a programme that will take place Saturday at Nehru Park in the capital.
