If you have always dreamt about your PSP getting a miraculous update that will enable it to make phone calls, your dream might just come true.
Sony has revealed that it is planning to introduce an entire new range of handhelds - including a phone that can double up as a PSP. The phone, which would be capable of downloading and playing PlayStation games, as well as connecting to Sony's online media platform, might be launched as soon as later in 2010.
It seems Sony has felt the need to claw back in to the consumer electronics and personal handhelds segment especially after devices like the iPad and the Amazon Kindle are encroaching into what has been Sony's traditional stronghold. Another interesting facet about this smartphone/PSP is that Sony's phone maker partner Ericsson has nothing to do with this project except for the hardware bit. But unlike previous occasions, Sony will be actually taking an active part in what goes in and what doesn't, in the phone. We are wondering if this move was in response to Apple's recent claim that it is actually a bigger mobile devices company than Sony, Samsung or even Nokia.
