New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on March 5 said the government was taking all possible steps to counter rising food prices and added that he was confident India's economic growth would exceed 8% in the next fiscal.
"This year we hope to achieve 7.2-7.5% economic growth; next fiscal we expect to achieve 8% and year thereafter we expect to return to 9% growth rate," the prime minister said in the Lok Sabha while answering questions on galloping food inflation. "The government has been alive to this problem and has taken all possible measures to address this issue," he said.
