New Delhi : Leaders of all major trade unions, including Congress-backed INTUC, on March 5 courted arrest along with hundreds of workers, protesting the government's economic policy and price rise here.
AITUC general secretary and CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta, INTUC's president G Sanjeeva Reddy, CITU president M K Pandhe along with top leaders of HMS, BMS, AIUTUC, TUCC, AICCTU and UTUC courted arrest agitating against the government's economic policies.
Addressing the workers, Gurudas Dasgupta said the struggle will continue till the government fulfils the demands of the workers. "We have collectively launched agitation throughout the country mainly against price rise, violation of labour laws, disinvestment of profit making PSUs, job loss and failure of government to set up a national welfare fund for the agricultural and unorganised workers," he said. More than 10 lakh workers are participating in March 5th agitation and courting arrest across the country, he claimed.
