Mumbai : Bombay High Court on March 4 granted bail to Dombivali corporator Mohan Shukla, who is a co-accused in the murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar.
Shukla was arrested for being part of the conspiracy hatched by main accused and Nimbalkar's political rival and NCP leader Padamsinh Patil. Arguing for Shukla, senior counsel Mahesh Jethmalani had said that the CBI had already filed a chargesheet in the case and there was no need to keep Shukla in prison.
Justice D G Karnik noted in his order that "Evidence fails to connect the applicant (Shukla) with the crime, even prima facie." High Court granted him bail of Rs 2 lakh, however stayed the order to enable CBI file appeal. Padmasinha Patil, main accused, was granted bail by session's court earlier.
