Court sends Ranjit Bajaj to police remand

Panchkula (Haryana) : A local court here sent Ranjit Bajaj, the son of former bureaucrat couple of Punjab, who was booked for attempt to murder, to two-day police remand.

Ranjit was arrested for attempt to murder following a police complaint from Gurmohan Singh Bedi, son of Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge M.M.S. Bedi.

Panchkula district police chief Maneesh Chaudhary told the media, "Our interrogation is on and we cannot divulge anything at this point of time as it might hamper our investigations." Ranjit, the only son of retired bureaucrats B.R. Bajaj and Rupan Deol Bajaj, was arrested from his house in the upscale Sector 16 in Chandigarh, around 10 km from here.

Ranjit's father has asked that the trial should be moved to some other state to ensure justice. "Our lawyer has filed an application in the Supreme Court to move this trial out of the jurisdiction of Punjab and Haryana High Court so that no influential man can manipulate its proceedings," said B.R. Bajaj while talking to reporters here.

He added, "Ranjit had a minor scuffle with Gurmohan as the latter had passed lewd remarks on Ranjit's female friends. My son has already publicly apologised for his act but the complainant has blown this issue out of proportion."

In the complaint, Gurmohan had alleged that Ranjit, along with two private security guards, assaulted him at the North Park resort in Panchkula following an argument over parking a car at the winter ball of St. John's Old Boys Association.
