India sets up cultural centre in Malaysia
 

New Delhi : The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has set up a full-fledged Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), complete with a dance studio, music and yoga rooms, in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, a statement said.

Inaugurated by ICCR president Karan Singh and Malaysia's Human Resource Minister S. Subramaniam, the ICC is in CapSquare in Kuala Lumpur, is spread over 8,000 square feet and houses a multi-purpose hall with stage, an exhibition gallery, a dance studio, music rooms and a yoga hall.

It also has a library cum resource centre with over 5,000 books on Indian art, culture, politics, economics and fiction. The main aim of setting up the ICC is to promote Indian art, culture and heritage.

Another aim of the centre is to enhance educational and academic exchanges between India and Malaysia. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between ICCR and the University of Malaya Feb 10 to set up a Chair in Social Sciences at the university, which will be staffed by a visiting professor from India, the statement added.
