Most of us are familiar with Disney's Mickey Mouse character and a lot of us adore him. If you are dying to spend some time with the favourite cartoon character from your childhood, here is some good news.
Disney is prepping a paint-stroke game play centred Epic Mickey game. Developed by Junction Point, this game was touted to be Nintendo Wii exclusive. At the recent DICE 2010 event, Disney Interactive Media Group head Steve Wardsworth and his colleague Graham Hopper hinted that Epic Mickey may go on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in future, as reported by GamaSutra.
Mickey Mouse plays the protagonist in the game and as obvious, Wiimote would be used to the maximum all the way. Since "the key mechanic [in the game] is an ink and paint mechanic", it seemed "completely intuitive to people" to play the title using a Wiimote, noted Hopper during an interview. Just like Wiimote is used in Dead Space's hardcore game play, in Epic Mickey, paint-stroke intuitiveness has been focused upon. Nintendo Wii has a larger audience for playing semi-casual and easy-to-play style of games.
As gamer knows Microsoft's Project Natal and Sony's Motion Controller would debut later this year. Obviously, these consoles would like to make Mickey jump and run. When asked whether Disney would make Epic Mickey work with Project Natal and Motion Controller, Hopper said that Epic Mickey has been in development for quite some time, adding, "If we started it 6 months ago we would have potentially thought differently about it."
Wardsworth noted, "We have a very large audience base that has Wiis in their home", making Nintendo's platform a natural choice. "That's not to say that we won't go to other platforms", he added. Looks like Disney would certainly consider porting the game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles in the near future.
