Taking a new initiative, the Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (Ciphet), a premier institute of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, in association with Ludhiana Central jail started a unique training programme in food processing for prisoners.
The aim of the programme was to enable inmates to earn respectful livelihood after they complete their sentence.
While inaugurating training programme in Ludhiana Central jail, Dr RT Patil, director - Ciphet said that the institute had developed number of technologies in food processing which could help jail inmates in setting up their own commercially viable units. He named technologies of green chilli powder production and groundnut milk production for setting up of such units.
Further he also revealed the process of making cheese from groundnuts, the technology of which was first time standardised by Ciphet Ludhiana.
