Cold conditions continue, Leh coldest with -15 degree C
 

Srinagar: Cold wave further tightened its grip in Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of New Year as mercury registered a sharp drop in most parts of the state on Dec. 31.

The minimum temperature in Leh slipped to minus 15 degrees C against minus 9.4 yesterday, while it dipped to minus 14.8 degrees C in Kargil district, MET office said. Pahalgam in the Valley witnessed the coldest night of the season so far as the minimum temperature touched minus 7.2 degrees C.

Similar conditions prevailed in other parts of the Valley, including Qazigund (minus 4.6), Kupwara (minus 4.4) and Srinagar which recorded a low of minus 4.0 C. Kokernag in south kashmir recorded minus 1.8 degrees C. The minimum temperature in Katra was 5.
