Indian classical music is on a new high, with Times Music's Ancient Sounds getting a Grammy nomination in the Best Traditional World Music Album (Vocal or Instrumental) category.
The album features Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan and renowned Oud exponent Rahim Alhaj together for the first time. The results will be declared live at the Grammy's in Los Angeles on January 31, 2010. Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan expressed that the endeavour of the artistes through this album was to deliver a message of peace and harmony for the world.
All but one of the seven tracks have been composed and written by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. The idea of recording this album came about last summer when Ustad Amjad Ali Khan met Rahim Alhaj in the USA. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was thrilled by the news of his nomination and is hoping to win. More importantly, he believes that ancient music is beyond religion, region and language and hopes that this album reaches every corner of the world. We hope the same and wish him all the best!
