Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has launched 3G services in Chennai and Itanagar, enabling the people to avail video, voice and web access at a great speed.
To begin with, BSNL is offering a monitoring service from remote location through network attached storage recording solution, among other services. In Chennai, BSNL also announced a special offer on the occasion, under which subscribers can make audio and video calls at 30 paise per minute for local calls, while for national calls the charge will be 50 paise per minute. By default, subscribers will be entitled to 50 minutes of free local video calls and 25 MB free data usage up to December 31.
BSNL hopes to achieve 150,000 subscribers within first two months in Chennai. While launching the service in Itanagar, R Sanyal, chief general manager of BSNL NE-II telecom circle, said that the 3G service would be extended to some other district towns including Pasighat within a few months.
In order to deter telecom companies from accepting wrongly filled forms and fake documents from customers, Sanyal said BSNL would impose a fine -- in the context of the government withdrawing prepaid mobile service in Jammu and Kashmir to contain its misuse by militants there.
