Burdwan: BJP and CPM, the arch political rivals on August 28 have formed an alliance to win a gram panchayat election in Burdwan district.
BJP leader Mala Dhara was made the chief of Purbasthali II gram panchayat as the `Jatiya Ganashakti Morcha', an alliance between BJP and CPM, won ten out of 13 seats by defeating Trinamool Congress in the trust vote.
Trinamool was earlier ruling the panchayat with seven seats. However, BJP MLA Swapan Debnath described CPM as an `opportunist' party and said that the alliance was `made to honour people's expectations'.
