Shimla: Uttaranchal Government was committed to bringing in more and more areas under green cover by increasing plantation of value-added saplings and a state-level Van Mahotsav would be held here, Forest Minister J.P. Nadda said.
Saying that Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal would preside over the Van Mahotsav, he yesterday said it was the state government's efforts to save environment that helped Himachal get 'Diamond State Award' last year.
Nadda said effective steps would be taken for revival of the Deodar trees in and around Shimla besides other places, keeping in view the importance of these trees in preserving the environment.Besides, endeavours of the Forest Department in plantation of saplings, many other institutions and voluntary organisations would also be involved in a big way.
