New Delhi: In the Parliament, Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav on July 14 called for a ban on Colors leading show Balika Vadhu.
The issue was raised during Question Hour when Ambika Soni, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, was responding to a question on content code for the electronic media.
Denying any reaction on the demand, Soni said that she would look into the complaint and had asked Yadav to submit the details.
Yadavs argument was that since child marriages were banned in India, any show depicting child marriage violated the Constitution.
Balika Vadhu is based on the life of child bride Anandi and her in-laws and takes up several social issues. The daily serial has been largely responsible for Colors climb to the top and has remained one of its most viewed shows.
