Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is going to start the admission process for its medical and dental colleges from July 20 onwards.
The admission process will take place to fill up 150 seats in the corporations LG Medical College and 100 seats in its dental college in Khokhra. Both the colleges will begin functioning from August 1.
On July 15, the AMC received the final permission from the Dental Council of India to commence its dental college in Khokhra. AMC had received an approval from the Medical Council of India to start operations at its LG Medical College on July 14.
Municipal commissioner IP Gautam said that the admission process in the AMC managed LG Medical College and dental college in Khokhra will start from July 20. Both the colleges are self financed colleges.
Gautam said, “We will start the admission procedure in both the new colleges by July 20. The centre has given us the go ahead for the colleges after examining the necessary arrangements at both the places. 127 seats in medical college and 87 seats in the dental college will be filled by the central government.”
He informed that in both the colleges 15% of the seats have been reserved for NRI students. Both the colleges will be run by the newly formed, the Ahmedabad Medical Education Trust. The AMC has claimed that the admission will be given on merit basis.
The dental college will be associated with the Shardaben Hospital and the LG Medical College will function in Maninagar. The AMC has also finished recruitment of faculties and deans for both the colleges.
