New Delhi: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was planning to make Class 10 board exams optional much before Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal announced his views, parliament was informed on July 13.
As per the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005, the board should think about a long term measure, making the class 10 examination non-compulsory. It will thus allow students to persist in the same school, Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) D. Purandeswari informed the Lok Sabha.
In spite of the board examination, the NCF has also suggested for an internal school exam.
In a written reply Purandeswari said, “CBSE has plans to introduce grading system in Class 10 examination and to make Class 10 examination optional for students continuing to study in the same school.”
At present, the CBSE has runs 10,000 schools under its control and the board has received 2,250 applications for fresh affiliations.
