We see that tasks such as e-mails and web surfing can be done through mobile phones, thus increasing the risk of viruses. The common virus like `CommWarrior` runs unnoticed in the set and sends itself out as an MMS to numbers in the telephone book. The virus becomes activated if the user accepts and installs it and that is why it is disguised as an update program. Mobile phone viruses are aimed at smart phones and mobiles with Symbian operating systems or the ones with Windows interfaces. Telephones meeting these standards are rare and their numbers do not warrant an attack. The virus makers are aiming to determine which forms of attack work. An owner of ordinary mobile phones, who uses it mainly for telephoning, need not worry.
At present there is no threat but virus will come to vogue when the number of smart phones rises and the use of mobile Internet services becomes more popular with the spread of UMTS devices. Hackers find interest in informing the people to send back and forth messages via a mobile, especially when it comes to payment services that might provide information about bank accounts.
So, the BSI is strictly advising mobile customers to equip their devices with virus protection. Now a days these viruses are accidentally transmitted. Users can prevent that in the same way as they block PC viruses. The user should bear in mind never to open unexpected mail attachments or attachments from unknown senders.
Bluetooth connections of mobile phones are another major security problem as the hackers can activate those connections without the knowledge of the phone`s owner. A Bluetooth connection should remain "invisible" or "hidden." And unexpected offers to help install programs should always be rejected.
