The much hyped `Phoonk`, a horror film by Ram Gopal Verma has received mixed reactions just after three days of the release of the film.
`Phoonk` is the story of a confirmed atheist whose belief systems are shaken up when his loved ones are subjected to unexplained horrors by forces whose very existence his rational mind refuses to accept.
The film is produced by Azam Khan and Parvez Damania under the banner One More Thought Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.
Phoonk is a typical Ram Gopal Verma film with no big stars but the child Ahsaas Channa playing a vital role. Sudeep, Amruta Khanvilkar, Zakir Hussain, K.K. Raina, Ashwini Kalsekar and Lilette Dubey are playing different roles.
The story of the film revolves round a construction engineer Rajeev (Sudeep), an atheist, who lives happily with his wife (Amruta Khanvilkar) and two children, Raksha (Ahsaas Chana) and Rohan (Shrey).
The film has got much hype before the launch by challenging the viewers with award money of Rs 5 lakh if one can alone watch the movie.
It is termed as the scariest movie by the director till date by the crew members. But, the audience of the film does not regard it as that dead scary. The movie may link one with the inner conscience that slightly believes in some of the higher powers.
Rajeev, the non believer of god and devil tries to find out the truth the day an evil enters his home and threatens to destroy his family.
The film might not be a classical horror film but it will definitely shiver the audience with powerful performance from the child actor Ahsaas Channa. Sudeep and Amruta Khanvilkar also acted efficiently. Ashwini Kalsekar is top notch and an excellent support from Zakir Hussain, Ganesh Yadav, K.K. Raina and Lilette Dubey has made it a watch worthy movie.
Marathi actress Amruta Khanvilkar, who plays a major role in Ram Gopal Varma`s horror flick, says that she has learnt a lot from the child actor Ahsaas, who plays the role of her daughter. Ahsaas comes under the influence of black magic in the movie.
The movie may be surely watched alone as it is not as scary as it should be so one can dare to win Rs 5 lakh from Ram Gopal Verma easily.
Phoonk tries to scare the audience with scary sound affects. It`s the kind of film in which booming background score will lead up to moments where characters turn around and find they were frightened by their own reflection in the mirror.
Phoonk will keep you attached to the seat for most part of the film and that alone is both its intention and its success.
The most unexpected and surprising thing is in the movie is the ending which some might not feel it is justified but still it was believable.
