Nissan Launching Six New Vehicles In India By 2012

The giant automobile company from Japan, Nissan has recently announced that it is planning to launch six new cars in the Indian market very soon, in a bid to strengthen its position in the market, further. The company officials have stated that they are thinking of launching the vehicles within the year of 2012 and the vehicles are inclusive of a hatchback car in the volume segment and some other commercial vehicles. The officials added that the company is going to produce the small car at its upcoming Chennai factory that is scheduled to start production by the year of 2010.

While talking about the company`s new plans for the Indian market, one of the top officials of the company said that Nissan is going to source Maruti-Suzuki`s yet-to-be-launched compact car, `A-Star` for selling in the European market. The official added that the company will also be exporting the small car from India to the international markets and it is considering of producing a low-cost car like the Tata Nano, very soon. The official said that this low-cost car will be launched in collaboration with its French parent, Renault and also the two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto. Informing that the company is currently importing the SUV `X-Trail` and sedan `Teana` in India, the Director at Nissan Motor India, Mr. Neeraj Garg said, "While today Nissan has two product offerings, by 2012 we will have 8 products, ranging from entry-level car and commercial vehicles to high-end SUVs and sedans".

Mr. Garg was also talking about the planned cars to be launched in India soon and said, "The Hatchback is being developed in Japan keeping in mind the conditions and requirements of the Indian market". He added, "Getting the pricing right is a key issue. But we feel that if others (existing players like Maruti or Hyundai) can do it, why can`t we". He also said that Nissan would be able to be competitive in the global supply chain network with the help of the exports. He further informed that the two companies, Nissan and Renault are setting up a passenger vehicle plant in Oragadam, near Chennai, very soon and the 50:50 joint venture is planning to invest an amount of Rs 4,500 crore for a 4-lakh capacity plant.
