New Technology Invented For Preventing Car Theft

The researchers have recently invented a brand new technology that is likely to prevent car theft totally, as they claimed that the new technology would enable the cars themselves to look after each other`s safety. The inventors of the technology have stated that in this new system, the cars will be talking to their neighbours constantly via some hidden wireless transmitters, and they would raise the alarm in a matter of seconds, in case a thief tries to sweep it off. The inventors have named the system as SVATS (Sensor-network-based Vehicle Anti-theft System) and the system has been designed by Mr. Hui Song from Frostburg State University, Maryland, United States. His colleagues at Pennsylvania State University have also assisted him in inventing the new technology.

While describing on the process how the new system works, Mr. Song said, "Multiple sensors hidden within the car would make it difficult, if not impossible, for a car thief to disable the system in a short period of time". He said that this new model is also going to omit those false alerts, characteristic of traditional car alarms and the system would start working when the driver of the vehicle switches on the transmitters fitted inside using a remote control, at the time of leaving the car. He said that the car would send out a "join" message to all the nearby cars, once the driver does that.

Mr. Song was describing the process in more details and said that the car would choose its nearest neighbours to act as its sentinels and would also prefer its partners that need the lowest signal strength for communication. He said that it would do so, to ensure that the system does not consume less of the car`s battery and the car would continue sending out periodic "alive" signals to these watchers, till the time the owner returns and it finally sends a "goodbye" message.

New Technology Invented For Preventing Car Theft According to Mr. Song, the theft alarm message will only be sent to the base station in case of a watching car getting more than three such warning signals from different sources and this is likely to decrease the chances of any false alarms known for anti-theft systems. He informed that they have already tested the technology by driving off some cars and found that SVATS detected all such "thefts" within a period of just 4 to 9 seconds. He said that they found the system to be apparently resistant to the false alarms caused by weather, or to people walking around the car park.
