India Beat Maldives 1-0 To Enter SAAF Semis

The Indian football team has been showing some consistently good performances in the ongoing SAAF Championship in Maldives at the moment, as they have registered their third consecutive win in the tournament on Saturday. After beating Nepal and Pakistan in their first two matches, the Indian team has defeated the hosts, Maldives by 1-0 in their third match of the tournament on Saturday. Gouramangi Singh was the only goal scorer for India in the match and India`s credit enhanced with the fact that they played the last 35 minutes or so in the match, as a 10-men side, as Sameer Naik was sent off the field in the 62nd minute.

As, the Indian team did already book their place in the semi-finals of the SAAF Championship, they decided to do some experiments with the team in the match against Maldives. India started the match with six of their regular players including Baichung Bhutia, Sunil Chhetri, Steven Dias, Climax Lawrence, Mahesh Gwali and NP Pradeep, out of the squad and the team management actually tested the strength of India`s reserve bench in this match. The new set of players began with a lot of enthusiasm in the match and they started to make attacks in the Maldives` half, right from the beginning of the match. As a result of those consistent attacks, the Indian team got its first and the decisive goal of the match in the 14th minute.
