|
In a bid to expand its product offering to the Indian consumers further, the major two-wheeler masker company, Yamaha Motor India has recently announced that it is going to launch a number of two more bikes in the 150 cc and 160 cc categories, later this year. The company officials have stated that the company is currently having a number of four models in the 100 cc category in India and it has also recently launched two bikes in the 125 cc executive range.
Informing that the company is also planning to cater its products to a much wider range of buyers, the Regional Head of Yamaha Motor India, Mr. Roy Kurian said that the company is on a major expansion mode at the moment. He said that Yamaha is currently holding a 2.5 per cent market share in India, and is aiming to increase it, within the next two years. He added that the company has recently launched its Gladiator range of bikes in two variants and thus entered the still untapped executive bike segment in India. He said that this segment has recently emerged as the fastest growing category in India.
To quote Mr. Kurian, "We are a late entrant into the market but as we roll out bikes in other segments such as the executive-class bikes, we would be able to gradually make inroads into the competition. Backed by a network of over 400 dealers, we now cover the length and breadth of the country. This will add to buyers confidence". He added, "Even though we account for very high volumes of scooter sales globally, the current focus in India is centered around motorcycles. May be at a later date we would look at this segment". He further said that they are also expanding the company`s manufacturing base for producing more models.
